Pain & Comfort
Does Rhinoplasty Hurt? Nose Job Pain, Honestly Explained
Dr. Enis Ekincioglu
The short answer: most patients are surprised by how little pain they feel after rhinoplasty. Discomfort — mostly pressure and congestion — is more common than sharp pain, and it's very manageable with standard medication.
During surgery
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, so you feel nothing during the operation itself.
The first 24 hours
You'll wake up with a nasal splint, some swelling, and a feeling of blockage — similar to a heavy cold. Most patients rate pain 2–3 out of 10 and only need paracetamol or a mild prescription painkiller.
Days 2–7
The most uncomfortable part is not being able to breathe well through the nose. Modern rhinoplasty rarely requires painful gauze packing — we use dissolvable internal splints instead.
After splint removal
Once the splint comes off (around day 7), breathing improves quickly and any residual soreness fades within another week.
Bottom line
Rhinoplasty is far less painful than most people fear. The bigger challenge is patience with swelling — not pain.
