Rhinoplasty Recovery Time: Week-by-Week Nose Job Timeline
One of the most common questions before rhinoplasty is: how long is the recovery? The honest answer is that visible recovery is fast, but full internal healing takes up to a year. Here's what to expect.
Days 1–3: Immediately after surgery
Expect nasal congestion, mild swelling, and some bruising under the eyes. Pain is usually mild and controlled with standard painkillers — most patients describe it as pressure, not sharp pain. Sleep with your head elevated and rest.
Days 4–7: Splint week
Swelling and bruising peak around day 3 and start improving by day 5. The external splint stays on for about 7 days. You can walk, work from home, and take short outings.
Week 2: Splint removal and social recovery
The splint comes off around day 7. Residual bruising is easily hidden with light makeup. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work and social settings from day 10.
Weeks 3–6: Back to normal life
Light cardio can be resumed around week 3. Avoid heavy lifting, contact sports, and glasses resting on the bridge for 6 weeks. The nose still looks slightly swollen, especially the tip.
Months 3–6: Refinement
Most swelling is gone. Fine details, especially in the tip, continue to refine. Photographs look natural and you can travel, exercise, and swim freely.
Months 6–12: Final result
Subtle swelling in the tip finishes settling, especially for patients with thicker skin. The final shape is typically visible between 9 and 12 months.
